Are Parrot Foot Toys Really That Important?
The title says it all, yes parrot foot toys are a necessary part of any bird that has zygodactyl feet. (Two toes pointing forward and two point backward). Birds in general do not have these type of feet. Simply explained not all birds are parrots but all parrots are birds. Knowing the types of items that your birds require is an important part of proper bird husbandry. A parrot must have toys to exercise it’s feet. maintaining coordination between the feet and beak is an important function that every parrot needs to maintain. Increasing agility and dexterity will help to prevent foot problems and disease in your parrot by giving it some simple foot toys to play with. Neglecting this aspect of your birds care could lead to serious problems with the feet. If birds are not allowed to stretch, perch on different surfaces, and manipulate objects with it’s feet, it will be doomed to have major foot problems, which can be entirely preventable.
