Handling a Vaginal Problem

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

You have a female vaginal problem that has been bugging you for a long time but you are not happy with how your family doctor is handling the situation. If the condition is not under control within a couple of visits, it may be time to seek the expert opinion of a specialized gynecologist. So where and how can you find a good V-specialist? Here are a few ideas. You could start by asking physicians and nurse practitioners that you already know. They may have a trusted connection through another patient or know of someone in the area that specializes in this. You could also call local gynecologists and talk to their staff to determine what kind of work they specialize in (vulvovaginal care, OBGYN, regular gynecology, etc.). And last but not least, you should try to contact the National Vulvodynia Association or the Vulvar Pain Foundation/Center and ask for a referral.
